Universal Studios Florida Common Support Facility
Peninsula engineering provided mechanical and electrical design for the approximately 150,000 square foot Common Support Facility at Universal City Florida. Constructed as two separate buildings, the facility was selected by the Central Florida Chapter of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and the Central Florida Chapter of the American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE) as their 2000 Engineering project of the year.
The 98,000 square foot administration building design includes a chilled water air conditioning system. Air cooled chillers serve variable air volume HVAC systems with direct digital controls.
The 50,000 square foot laundry facility is 28 feet in height to allow installation of articulated material handling systems and conveyors to maximize automation. Air cooled chillers were used to provide strategically located spot cooling for all work stations throughout the building. The building utilizes a 500-hp high pressure gas fired steam boiler to feed a multitude of processes within the building. The boiler system incorporates a burner management system for maximum efficiency.
